Root Reach Root Reach

Mix with Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate Root Killers to Reach Roots at Top of Sewer Pipes

Does Not Contain Root Killer

The Problem

Copper sulphate pentahydrate products like Root Gone™ have been used for many years as one of the most cost effective and efficient methods of killing roots in household sewer pipes and drain lines. Copper sulphate pentahydrate dissolves readily in water and will kill roots it comes in contact with as it flows through the pipe. Frequently copper sulphate treatments do not come in contact with the roots or meristems at an early stage of growth since water typically flows only through the bottom ½ inch of household pipes and root intrusions typically exist in the tops or sides of the sewer pipes. As a result roots are many times not killed until the intrusion is severe enough to start causing a blockage. When roots are not killed until they reach the bottom area of the pipes, it will take a long time for the dead roots to degrade and pass out of the pipes. Root cutting services can remove the dead roots more quickly, but cutting or pruning the roots will stimulate new growth. Although foaming dichlobenil root killers are available, the retail packages currently sold produce small amounts of foam that are not effective in reaching the root intrusions. The cost of dichlobenil is prohibitive when enough product is used to do the job.

The Solution

Root ReachTM was developed in response to consumer requests for assistance in killing the roots while they are still in the top area of the sewer pipe. Adding Root ReachTM and hot water through the clean out will generate foam. When the Root Gone™ (copper sulphate pentahydrate) is also added to the pipe a chemical reaction occurs to accelerate the production of foam. One pound of Root ReachTM mixed with 4 gallons of hot water, followed by 3 to 6 pounds of Root Gone™, will fill a 6 inch diameter pipe with 20 feet of foam and kill roots before they cause a blockage. If roots are already causing a blockage, Root ReachTM may also be used. The roots should first be removed mechanically by a professional service. Root Reach™ and Root Gone™ may then be applied to prevent regrowth.
